The Museum of Art Collections brings together, under one roof on Calea Victoriei, several private collections donated to the state over time. The result is a museum with a distinct personality: not a single curatorial vision, but the tastes and passions of different collectors, ranging from Romanian and European painting to decorative arts, furniture, icons and folk objects. Among the donors are major names of Romanian collecting, whose collections were gathered here after nationalisation.

You move from a room ruled by the masters of Romanian painting — Grigorescu, Luchian, Tonitza — into another full of oriental carpets, ceramics or silverware, each reflecting how one particular person looked at beauty and built, object by object, their own private universe. The building, the Romanit Palace, a period edifice on the city's most famous avenue, adds to the charm of the visit.
