Muzeul Geologic Național

The National Geological Museum stands on Șoseaua Kiseleff, very close to the Antipa Museum, in an elegant building with a Neo-Romanian façade, raised in the early 20th century to the designs of architect Victor Ștephănescu for the Geological Institute of Romania. It is a museum devoted to minerals, rocks and fossils, less famous than its better-known neighbours, but with a surprisingly beautiful and well-presented collection.

A visit leads you among cases of crystals in every colour, ores, rocks and fossils from Romania and around the world, plus sections on the formation of the Earth, volcanism, tectonics and mineral resources. For children, the cases of glittering crystals and semi-precious stones are often the favourite part, like a small multicoloured treasure, while for adults it is an accessible and clear introduction to geology. Being a smaller, quieter museum, it can be seen relatively quickly, without crowds, and is easily combined with the other Kiseleff museums in a single afternoon.
