Monumentul "Eroilor Aerului"

The Heroes of the Air Monument rises on Bulevardul Aviatorilor, in the elegant north of Bucharest, as a tribute to the pioneers and heroes of Romanian aviation. Created in the interwar period and unveiled in 1935, from a project begun by the sculptor Lidia Kotzebue and completed by Iosif Fekete, the monument combines a stylised human figure with outstretched wings in a dynamic composition that suggests flight and ascent, one of the most accomplished works of public sculpture in the city. More than 20 metres tall, it has figures of aviators and mechanics at its base.

Its setting, in the middle of a generous boulevard lined with villas and embassies, heightens the effect: the slender silhouette stands out against the sky, visible from afar, especially against the backdrop of the area's interwar houses.
