Militari

Militari is a large district in western Bucharest, largely residential but with a strong commercial side. It's not a classic tourist destination but a place of intense urban life — apartment blocks, wide boulevards, malls and busy transport hubs. It's one of the gateways into the city from the west, so traffic and movement are part of its identity, and the area pulses with the rhythm of people coming and going.

What's around

At the edge of the district sits AFI Cotroceni, one of the city's largest malls, with shops, a cinema and a serious lineup of restaurants. There's also Plaza România, another long-standing shopping centre that has anchored the area for years. For shopping, a film or a meal on a rainy day, the area has it all covered — these are among the busiest commercial poles in the western half of the city, and they draw people well beyond Militari itself.

The vibe

Crowded, dynamic, very much "city". The Lujerului and Gorjului hubs are among the busiest points in the west, with large flows of people changing transport at all hours. It's a practical Bucharest with no tourist pretensions, but very much alive — a district that works hard and never quite stops moving, with the ordinary buzz of a place where real life happens.

Getting there

The metro serves the district well via the line running west, with stops at Lujerului, Gorjului and others — convenient and quick from the centre, and a big part of why the area is so easy to reach.
